If you have a PC that is more than a year old you might have noticed that it seems a bit slow or that it can’t quite cope with the latest games or software you want to run on it.

Modern uses for computers include digital photography, creating and editing your own home videos, storing movies, watching and recording TV. The humble home computer is becoming the hub of our home entertainment and the demands on them are ever increasing

Video editing and digital media such as music, photos and videos requires a large amount of storage, but also needs plenty of memory (RAM). A memory upgrade and an additional internal hard drive, or external USB 2 hard drive will certainly make these tasks easier.

Adding a TV card to your PC will turn it into a digital TV recorder. You’ll also be able to pause and rewind live TV as well as have access to all the benefits of digital TV.

Providing your machine isn’t too old, there are a number of ways you can enhance and breathe new life into your old PC.

Operating System Install

Have you just bought a PC from a friend or your current PC is in need of an operating system upgrade? If the answer is yes then we have just the service for you. Bring your PC into us and we can install/upgrade your computer to the latest operating system, providing it meets the minimum required specification.

Will I lose my data?

If you are opting for a full operating system install then you will lose any data that is stored on the PC. It is recommended that you backup any critical information before proceeding. If you are unable to backup your data then we also offer a service that can do this for you (see Data Backup).

If you just choose to upgrade the operating system, then any personal data on the computer will be perfectly ok.

Once the operating system is installed, we will make sure that your sound card and video card etc. work and that any updates for the operating system have been include.

Windows Recovery

If your computer is not performing as well as it did when you first bought it and it’s taking forever to boot-up and load applications, then it may be a good idea to recover the system. If you bought your computer from a high street store then there is a good chance that it came with some manufacturer’s recovery media.

If you’re unsure or don’t feel comfortable recovering your own computer, then let us lend a hand. We’ll recover your PC in one of two ways, either with the discs supplied with the computer, or in some cases, via an inbuilt hard disk recovery.

Some recovery options allow you to perform a non destructive recovery; this will ensure that any data on your computer is not deleted. If a full recovery is necessary then any data on your computer will be lost. It is recommended that you backup any critical information or let our experts do it for you (see Data Backup).

Data Transfer

OK so you’ve bought the new PC and you’ve installed all your programs but all your data is still on your old PC. One of the most daunting tasks for a PC user is transferring their data from one machine to another and it can really take the shine off of buying a new computer.

Our experts will take the worry out of data transfer for you by moving all your files and folders to your shiny new computer. Just drop in the two machines and leave the rest to us.

Full PC Health Check

Did you know that your computer needs regular maintenance in order to keep it running at its best? Adding and removing software and the build up of temporary files leave behind a messy hard drive. Also over time, dust and cobwebs build up inside the case causing overheating problems. All these factors reduce the efficiency of your computer – which means you don’t get the performance you expect.

That’s why we recommend you have a Health Check once a year. Similar to a car service and MOT – our Health Check focuses on a number of areas:

· Installation of Windows updates and security patches.

· A full virus and spyware scan and clean.

· A full valet – your computer is thoroughly cleaned inside and out.

· Advice on any required upgrades.

Driver downloads and install

We'll download the latest driver for your device(s), install it on to your machine and make sure it's working.

When you first bought your PC, all the hardware came with the latest drivers and was fully compatible with all your games and applications But as time goes by, hardware and peripherals advance, so the drivers that are used to talk to the devices need to be updated to make use of any added functionality.

If you don’t have access to an internet connection then we can provide this service for you. We will download the drivers and put them on CD for you.

Windows Repair

You’ve probably experienced in the past, issues when trying to boot-up into your operating system. As you will be aware, this can be very frustrating and can result in performing a recovery of your computer. This can take a considerable amount of time and there is always that element of doubt whether you are going to loose your data.

We can try and save all your data and restore your PC to its factory settings and then

transfer all your data. (Some additional programs may have to be reinstalled by you)

Data Recovery

Computers store data like programs, letters, pictures and music for example, on a device called a hard disk drive or HDD. You have probably heard the phrase “my computer has crashed” which actually means their HDD has failed or become corrupted and therefore the computer cannot display the operating system which results in a blank screen. Early warning signs are the computer running slowly, the HDD ticking or making strange noises or booting up into Windows takes several attempts.

As long as your HDD can be detected in your computers BIOS then our experts can recover your data and in most cases, transfer everything on your HDD to a new one. So if you are experiencing the warning signs, which happen with alarming regularity, don’t leave it too late.
